Day of the Dead celebrations are taking place all this week in High River.

One of the organizers, Liz Vigueras, says a pair of alters has been set up at the Museum of the Highwood and the Heritage Inn.

"We want to celebrate a life and love that loved ones gave us when they were alive, and they are not in this material environment anymore but we want to celebrate their existence and remember them with love," she says.

She says there are classes and workshops as well, and the week wraps up Friday with a big gala dinner at the Heritage Inn.

"We have a line up of 20 entertainers, everything from musical performances, dance performance, vocal performance, the majority is Mexican artists but we also have local Canadians artists performing," Sybrina Albright says. "This is an amazing community collaboration and it take all of us together to make a big event like this happen."

"We have a lot of support to create this inclusion from the Mexican culture and while we are very happy right now most of the businesses in town are going to participate in giving some joy," Vigueras says.
