It's one and done for the Okotoks Dawgs as they dropped a 7-3 decision to the Medicine Hat Mavericks Thursday night at Seaman Stadium to lose their first round WMBL series in five games.

Manager Brett Thomas says the boys did their best.

"I mean I'm proud of these guys. You know we obviously could have played better, but it's all we ask of them. We asked them to not worry about the result and play hard and they really did that."

Thomas says the Mavericks were full value for coming back in the series.

"Two tough teams going at it and unfortunately one of them had to win and one of them had to lose. They did a great job, so tip your caps to them and Adam (Manager Shorsher) just did a great job coaching that team and that's all you can really say.

Thomas says now comes the hardest part of his job.

saying "goodbye" to his players.

"It's just difficult to deal with because of the relationships you build with these guys. You know you've got to say goodbye and you really honestly never know if you're ever going to see them again, so that's the toughest part."

The game story saw Brian Sisler going 1-for-3 at the plate, scoring once.

Brendan Hendriks went 1-for-5, scoring once and adding an RBI.

Dane Tofteland did his part to help keep the Dawgs alive as he went 3-for-4, delivering an RBI single.

On the mound, Dylan Nelson started for the Dawgs putting in 6.1 innings of work.

He gave up six runs on nine hits, walked two batters and struck-out six.

Jeremy Newton replaced Nelson, pitching two innings.

Newton only gave up one hit and no runs, while walking no one and striking out three.

Alex Regan was next up, pitching 0.1 innings giving up a run on one hit, while walking two.

Holden Lyons was the final Dawgs pitcher of the night as he too pitched 0.1 innings, giving up no hits, no runs, no walks and no strike-outs.

The Mavericks now go on to face the Lethbridge Bulls in the league semi-finals starting Sunday in Lethbridge.
