Not the start to the season the Okotoks Dawgs were hoping for as they fell 8-5 to the Mavericks Wednesday night in Medicine Hat.

Okotoks Peter Hutzal started things off by sending the second pitch of the night out of the park.

He added an RBI double late in the game to finish 2-for-4 with a couple of RBI's.

Bruce Yari was no slouch either, going 3-for-4 with a couple of RBI's.

On the mound Garrett Ciuk picked up a no decision after pitching five scoreless innings allowing one hit while walking three and striking out one.

Tyler Burdett pitched an inning and a third allowing two hits in his Dawgs debut.

The Dawgs and Mavericks wind up their series Thursday night before the Dawgs head back to Okotoks to tackle the Fort McMurray Giants in their home opener Friday.
