The Okotoks Dawgs and Sylvan Lake Gulls battled in a close low-scoring game Tuesday night, with the Gulls taking it 2-1.

The Dawgs move back three games behind the Gulls who are the West Division leaders after Tuesday night’s loss. Okotoks still leads the 2024 WCBL season series 5-3 against Sylvan Lake.

Sherwood Park's Graham Brunner made the start on the mound and pitched a full seven innings. The Dawg's veteran would serve seven Gulls' batters with K's. He also allowed four hits and just a single run during his time at the mound tonight.

Aaron Hammer and Easton Corey came in relief for the eighth inning.

Okotoks got the first run of the game at the top of the second. The Dawgs had a bases-loaded opportunity when Caleb Lumbard, Dawson Santana, and Brendan Luther were on base. Ricky Sanchez was up to bat and waited for his pitch earning a walk and getting Lumbard across home plate for the first run of the game.

The Dawgs took the 1-0 lead to the bottom of the seventh. Gulls would score a run at the bottom of the seventh and then get the winning and final run of the evening at the bottom of the eighth, completing a late-game comeback against Okotoks.

Okotoks will have the day off and play again on Thursday (July 18) at Seaman Stadium when they host the Moose Jaw Express for their first meeting of the season. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 pm.
