The Okotoks Dawgs and their Academy Teams aren’t letting the 2020 season, or lack of it, stop them from making big plans for 2021.

The College team is set to host the 2021 WCBL All Star Game and a Canadian Super Series between the Dawgs and Ontario Blue Jays.

Not to be outdone, the Okotoks Dawgs Academy will host a series of there own against another big junior program from down east, the Ontario Terriers.

Dawgs General Manager Tyler Hollick, says they're excited to put their skills up against those of the Terriers.

“We're trying to broaden our horizons as much as we can and try and expand the competition. So the Terriers are actually coming out here (at the) beginning of June. It'll be a really good couple of weeks for our guys to test against a couple of the top travel programs out in Ontario.”

The Terriers will bring four of their teams (U-15 to U-18) to match up against the J-Dawgs.

The J-Dawgs usually travel to the U.S. quite a bit during the summer, but because of COVID that remains up in the in air, meaning the series will be a definite highlight of their schedule.

Though this Ontario team isn’t normally a main focus for them, Hollick says, the coaches still have high expectations.

“Expectations wise, we have a really strong group and we really believe in their ability but we’re basically going out there to make sure that they compete, play hard and we’ll see where chips fall at the end of the day.”

And when it comes to the discussion of who’s best: East or West, Hollick respects the talent nationwide but has confidence in his program.

“We have a really strong group and we believe we're the strongest program in the country. But when it comes to East vs West, Ontario's always strong. You see a lot of top major league draft picks coming from out of there, so it depends on the year. But in terms of individual programs, we’ve got a lot of faith in what we're doing.”

Though the J-Dawgs want to supply a high-level competitive experience they also want the visiting team to enjoy a one-of-a-kind summer in the Foothills.

That will include tickets to the College Dawgs games for all Terriers coaches and players, as well as an up close look into the baseball talent that's in Okotoks.

The series takes place Wednesday, June 9 to Monday, June 14, 2021.
