Two Okotoks boys are back in the saddle this year for the Great Cycle Challenge.

For the entire month of August, brothers Kolten and Keegan Davis (aged 5 and 3) will be cycling around town, racking up the kilometres and raising money in the process.

This will be Kolten's third year with the challenge and Keegan's second.

The annual event is a fundraiser for the SickKids Foundation, Kolten and Keegan are dedicating this year's ride to someone special.

They're riding for Kolton Byerley, a 13-year-old Okotokian who was found to have a golfball-sized tumour on his brain.

After undergoing a successful surgery, he's been going through treatment for Cerebellar Mutism Syndrome, a condition that affects his speech and motor functions and is common for children who've undergone these kinds of surgeries.

Kolten and Keegan's mother Tasha Davis says Kolton and the rest of the Byerleys have been a huge inspiration.

"That kid has more courage and more drive than anyone else that I know, and he doesn't let anything get in his way. He is one little rock star and his mother, my goodness, that woman is amazing. Just smiles all the time, has such a glitter in her eye, and she's just as happy as can be. She has been absolutely supportive of the whole event we're doing. It's amazing to see that something that started as something to do for our family when the whole world shut down in 2020, fast forward three years later, and we've just about raised $30,000."

By now, the two are pretty well known on local pathways.

"We get stopped all the time. People would stop Kolten all the time on the trails and say 'Hey, I know who you are!" Kolten would be blown away that they would know him from an article or an interview, or even seeing him riding."

Just like the last two years, they'll be doing a big lap around town, escorted by Bikers are Buddies.

The brothers are now honourary members of the awareness group and were given the nicknames Bug and Chicken Nugget.

That's scheduled for August 18.
