Update: Hockey Canada announced today Iginla will miss the tournament due to an upper-body injury sustained during a pre-tournament game against the United States.

Jade Iginla, the daughter of Hockey Hall of Fame and Calgary Flames alumnus, Jarome Iginla was set to represent Canada at the 2022 IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) Women's U18 World Championship starting today.

Iginla was among 22 other female players who were going to be donning Canada's maple leaf in Madison and Middleton, Wisconsin. She would be playing forward on the team with the number 10 on her jersey.

“Our staff has done an amazing job evaluating talent at the under-18 level through our selection camp and with their club teams throughout the season,” said Gina Kingsbury, director of hockey operations with Hockey Canada, in a press release. “This is an exciting time for this group of dedicated athletes, who have patiently waited for a chance to compete on the international stage. Our athletes and coaching staff are eager to travel to Wisconsin and represent Canada while having the opportunity to compete for gold at the world championship.”

Canada is in Group A at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship with Finland, Sweden and the United States. Group B is comprised of Czechia, Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland.

Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 team will look to earn its first gold medal at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in 2019; it has won five gold medals (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2019), seven silver (2008, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2020) and one bronze (2018).

The tournament opens today, with the first game against Finland at 5 P.M. (3 P.M. MT).
