The Foothills Rural Crime Watch Association has chimed in with their two cents on proposed changes existing legislation preventing homeowners from being sued if they injure someone during a crime.

Association President Don Larson says they're happy with the changes, but says it still doesn't address the right's of landowners to defend their properties.

"Also wondering why we're not addressing the main issue, which still comes back to the landowner and the security of their family and property. But again nothing in there (proposed changes) addressing the main issue."

Larson says such cases may need to see the Justice Minister get involved.

"If you get a clear message or direction from the Justice Minister saying "You know what we're just not going to prosecute these cases." Involving where landowners are acting under the provisions under the Criminal Code of Canada, where they're using reasonable force. We're just not going to proceed."

Like most others, Larson says he's not sure if the changes, which would be retroactive to January 2018, will have an effect on the lawsuit against Eddie Maurice by Ryan Watson.
