It's a couple of days early but the Coal Policy Committee has handed over its report to the Minister of Energy Sonya Savage.

In a statement, the minister says the independent committee has submitted both the Engagement Report and the Final Report, which contains its recommendations on Alberta’s long-term approach to coal.

She says the government will take the necessary time to review the reports and the recommendations carefully before they're released publicly.

She thanked all Albertans for their participation in the process.

The committee was struck after a massive protest erupted when the UCP government rescinded a moratorium on mining on the eastern slopes of the Rockies.
