Chanse Vigen takes first Chuckwagon race of the season

Chanse Vigen took the first WPCA event of the season at the Grande Prairie Stompede.

Vigen also sat atop the aggregate board after four days to win the award named in honour of his grandfather the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award on Saturday night. 

Chanse, hailing from just outside Calgary actually had a false start last night for the Championship Dash for Cash race and was docked a full 2 seconds before the race even began.

But it didn't stop him from winning.  He raced through the finish line with a sizzling 1:16.27 which was good enough to beat Kurt Bensmiller in second with a time of 1:18.80.  When you tack on the two second penalty, Vigen won by .53 seconds for the title.

The other drivers in the final four had Ross Knight finishing third with Ray Crouteau Jr. ending in fourth.

Locally Jason Glass finished in 7th on Sunday with Mark Sutherland coming in 15th, Dayton Sutherland ended up in 33rd with Jordie Fike in 35th.

The next WPCA event goes in Bonnyville June 8-11, 2023.
