A pair of  backcountry campgrounds in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park are still closed for the most Canadian of reasons...too much snow.

The campgrounds that are affected are Aster lake and Turbine.

According to the Alberta Parks Facebook page they're experiencing significant lingering snowpack in higher elevations throughout Kananaskis Country and this is impacting several backcountry campgrounds.

Marked trails are tough to navigate, toilets are inaccessible and tent pads are completely buried and hard to locate or extremely muddy.

That's leading to damage or last minute un-booked overuse of other lower elevation campgrounds.

The closures will remain in effect until at least this Friday July 19, 2022.
