With a "wall" seeming to form between Canada and the US on the trade front, residents may be looking more closely at spending their money on Canadian goods.

Okotoks residents can take it one step further by purchasing locally made products.

Jayme Hall, Executive Director of the Okotoks and District Chamber of Commerce, says it's important to assess what products the community has to offer.

"It's really easy to order a product potentially from the United States or on Amazon, online, or maybe take that half hour drive into the city to get products there, but if you just take that little bit of time to research what's available locally I think you'd be really surprised to find out the types of products and services that are available in town."

Hall explains spending money in town goes full circle.

"You're supporting your local economy. These types of people that you're giving your money to that are giving you a product in return are utilizing that money hopefully within the local economy as well. They're buying their groceries here, they're getting their gas here, they're in turn forcing local goods and products and services from the local community."

He recommends residents take the time to research what they can buy locally by attending town events and markets and being a part of community pages on social media.
