The Town of High River will keep operating in the new year.

Council last week passed an interim operating budget that'll see the Town through until the final budget is passed sometime in the spring.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says they may try something new.

"We're reviewing a new model of how to fund taxation and everything else, we're kind of looking at a couple of new models of that and we haven't totally wrapped our heads around as to whether this might be a good idea or not," he says.

He says a lot of other towns are looking at ways to better deal with taxation of residents and businesses.

Snodgrass says timing is another factor.

"I'm never into rushing budgets, especially when you're coming out of summer holidays and you've got to have a $36-million budget in place by the end of October, it just doesn't line up very well at all."
