In his first full start with the Okotoks Dawgs this season... Pitcher Tyrell King didn't disappoint the hometown faithful Friday night.

King went seven strong innings and struck five in the Dawgs' 5-1 over the Edmonton Prospects.

The Dawgs are now just a game back of Medicine Hat for 2nd in the WMBL's Alberta Division.

King says he couldn't have asked for a better night on the mound.

"today was a huge win definitely knocks down Edmonton a bit," he says. "Just playing at home is always great, I love this town of course, this is my second home, I've been saying that since last year, so I love performing for all these kids and all these fans."

King credits his team's efforts on the field and at the plate for making his return to the starting rotation a good one after the club had just dropped their last two games on the road.

"I love it, that's part of baseball, when you have back-up, you have guys diving, making backhanded plays, anything like that just shows they're playing with confidence," he says. "Thats one thing we lagged during those two losses."

He says the club got some of its swagger back playing at home.

"Today we kind of got that back, the biggest test is if we can keep it rolling and believe we can so that's the good thing."

The Dawgs will turn their attention to the league leading Lethbridge Bulls at home tonight.

First pitch is 7:05
