This week's announcement of close to $13 million in federal and provincial money for waste water upgrades is welcome news in Black Diamond.

The Town needs to come up with $4.6 million of their own to help pay for the projects.

Mayor Ruth Goodwin says they have a plan.

"We're looking at reserves and debentures in order to meet and make up the additional monies needed as we go through the several phases that we need to over the next couple of years."

The Mayor is hoping to see some locals benefit from the jobs that will be created.

Goodwin says it's not entirely up to them, but to the contractors hired to do the work.

"There is always the process we go through in order to evaluate the best organizations to help us out with that project. I am hoping that they will focus and concentrate on utilizing our trades and local area professionals."

The project will centre around making sure the Town's effluent going back into the Sheep river complies with Alberta Environment standards.

Goodwin says she's not sure when the work will begin.
