Bird watchers have a new perch of their own,

The President of the High River Kinsmen Club, Denton Eaglesham says one of their members brought forward the idea of rebuilding a viewing stand at the north end of Emerson Lake.

"I guess he walks up there quite a bit and noticed there was a platform there before, it had fallen into disrepair and so he thought that might be a good project for us to take on and get a little publicity and be a good benefit to the community," he says. "We actually hired it out, we just funded it. We talked about doing it but we wanted to make sure it's a really good job, we just decided that we didn't have the expertise or the time and especially with COVID and everything, having a bunch of us working in one spot."

Eaglesham says it was done in conjunction with the town and it has a list of preferred businesses to work with, and after the bidding was closed Coyote Construction did the work.

There were plaques up at the site explaining which types of birds could be seen on the pond and plans are in the works to have them put back.
