Federal agriculture critic John Barlow is outraged with the lack of action from the Trudeau government for the industry.

The Foothills MP says the Conservatives continue to bring it up at committee meetings.

"You know we're continuing to raise this but it just seems to be not a priority for this government, no surprise, you can only ask our producers to do so much and not have those safety nets for them when they need them and that's really frustrating for them," Barlow says.

The MP says there are a couple of big issues ahead including one involving the cattle industry with the fall calf run not too far down the road..

"With feedlots full, the processing capacity starting to get back up to normal, but (there's) still some real anxiety, you know, that they're not through the worst of it, so that's pretty much the number one issue I'm hearing and obviously trade markets, always anxious about what China is doing, so I think we always have to be cognizant of that," he says.

Barlow says in his riding a lot of producers are abandoning canola in favour of barley whether it's brewing malt or feed because of the big local market.
