The Town of Turner Valley has issued a warning that a young black bear has been spotted in the School / Anderson Crescent area.

Please exercise caution, as this is the time of the season that they are most actively looking for food before winter.

The town recommended keeping your fruit trees and bushes picked, keeping pet food stored indoors, keeping barbeques clean, and practicing the following regarding Composting / Green Carts:

- Store Garbage Carts, Green Carts and Recycling Bins in an area inaccessible to wildlife.

- Freeze meat and strong-smelling food scraps, and transfer them to the Green Cart on collection day.

- Put all food waste in the Green Cart and not the Garbage Cart.

bear warning

If you find yourself in the proximity of a bear. Stand and face the bear directly. Never run away from or approach him. Make yourself look as big as possible by spreading your arms or, better yet, a coat. Make as much noise as possible by yelling, banging pots and pans or using other noisemaking devices.

Once safe call the town office at (403) 933-4944.
