How does your garden grow?

This was the day we were all invited to snoop around our neighbours backyards and support The Foothills Country Hospice Society too! Many people accepted that invitation and enjoyed a great tour on this beautiful day.

Megan Spence and I accepted the invitation and were in awe of so many gorgeous yards and gardens. Okotokians really know how to grow amazing flowers and plants, which can present a challenge in this ever changing foothills weather.

Some of these gardeners have been nurturing their gardens for years, and others have developed these amazing yards in only a short time with a lot of hard work and dedication. The tickets were only $10 and all proceeds were donated to The Foothills Country Hospice Society. We spoke with gardeners and visitors alike that told us the hospice is a charity that is near and dear to their hearts.

When we visited the home of Brian and Dale Fea, they were having a garden party with some special guests. The Dewdney Players Group Theatre had some of the Calendar Girls cast and crew on hand, who will be taking to the stage in October.

The connection to the Big Rock Garden Tour?

These Calendar Girls are also raising money for the Foothills Country Hospice with the sale of their very special calendar that will be available for sale soon. They were serving up lemonade wearing the very recognizable black dresses, pearls, big hats and sunflowers. However, until the calendar is revealed for sale, they are being very mysterious as to who is cast as the six main characters.

Was it these lovely ladies serving lemonade today? We were told “You will have to wait and see, all will be revealed with the calendar.” They added we should keep a lookout for more appearances by the cast and crew around town wearing the recognizable symbol: the sunflower.
