There aren't going to be as many, or any, rapid COVID tests on pharmacy shelves for a while.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw put out a message on Twitter Wednesday (Jan. 12) morning that the delivery of tests from the federal government and suppliers has been delayed.

It's not known when more swabs are expected to arrive or whether the delay will have an impact on getting kits into classrooms.

Education minister Adriana LaGrange said last week 4.3 million tests would be delivered to K-12 schools this week, with another 4.3 million later in the month.

Alberta announced the rationing of PCR tests on Monday.
