Many Albertans are not certified to help you in the case of an emergency.

Owner of Breath for Life, Dominique Grass says,"Alberta's stats are not very comforting."

"40 % say they've been in an emergency situation, however only 18 % say they are currently certified, "says Grass.

A lot of people get first aid just for work purposes and don't see the importance of it for every day life.

Grass says, "Yes, you need it for work that's great, but statistics are proving your doing it for someone you know and love, and more the times at home. I think if we can get that emotional side, the heart strings going, then the statistics might improve."

Red Cross says about 68 per cent of Canadians say they can recognize the signs of a life-threatening health emergency, like choking or cardiac arrest, fewer than half believe they have the skills to provide life-saving basic first aid.

You can sign up for courses easily by going online.

You can go to www.redcross.ca and do a course search.

"There are so many courses, depending on the need that person is looking for, or the time commitment that they want to put in, there is such a variety. They can start there and they list all the current providers that they have, "says Grass.

You can also go to www.breathforlifeinc.com or phone (780) 434- 4368.

Grass says, "Your loved ones could be saved by you knowing what to do in the case of an emergency."

On September 8th, everybody is celebrating World First Aid day, so why not go get certified.
