Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health confirms the province has its first confirmed case of monkeypox.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced on Twitter, that to protect the privacy of the adult case, AHS will not provide identifying information but it's confirmed they had close contact with a known case outside the province. 

The person is currently self-isolating.

Dr. Hinshaw says monkeypox is a rare disease that can cause fevers, aches and rashes. 

Monkeypox does not spread easily between people.
