The COVID-19 update for today was delivered via a written news release due to the scale back of live conferences presented by Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

The report announced there has been a significant decline in the number of actives cases of COVID-19 in Calgary and Brooks which means both cities can reopen more businesses starting May 25th.

According to the news release, Alberta’s COVID-19 hospitalization rates remain low with 54 people currently in the hospital, six of whom are in intensive care.

In total, 5,801 Albertans have recovered from COVID-19.

Two more Albertans have died bringing the total number of deaths in Alberta to 134.

There have been 32 new cases found after 3,205 tests were completed in the last 24 hours bringing the active case total to 865 as reported during Friday's update.

The update specifies increased health services and testing is available soon and starting May 25th, some Albertans will have access to more health services, including voluntary testing for asymptomatic staff and residents in long-term care and some designated supportive living facilities.

AHS also mentioned non-urgent surgeries that require hospital stays will resume as will maternity services at South Calgary Campus and High River Hospital on June 3.
