We've been lucky this week in the Foothills, with temperatures well above the average for this time of year.

It seems our luck will be coming to an end over the weekend however.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada Sara Hoffman says we're in for a rude awakening on Saturday.

"For Saturday we're forecasting a daytime high of thirteen degrees, but then we will have a cold front swing through the area on Saturday which will drop temperatures to minus twelve overnight Saturday into Sunday, and bring along with it the possibility of some pockets of heavier snow."

Additionally, we'll see Westerly winds gusting up to 90km/h are on the way in the next few days.

Hoffman says the temperature will fall in line with the seasonal average on the weekend and into next week.

"Temperature will drop to minus twelve, and there will be a bit of gusty winds along with that cold front, so we will likely have a consideration for wind chill, although temperatures will not be as cold as they were a couple weeks ago. We're expecting temperatures to be much closer to seasonal next week."

As for precipitation, the current forecast calls for rain or snow on Saturday, continuing into the evening.
