The High River Karate Club is looking for new members.

Robert Robinson is the club's new Sensei and he says you can do it for fun or take it as far as you want.

"It's all what you put into it, what you put into it is what you're going to get out of it and it's all how much effort you put into it," he says. "It can be rewarding for anybody, because I've been to Japan for karate, through karate so that was an experience."

He says the sport has many benefits.

"It gives you confidence, self esteem and it's a regular workout, we go twice a week for two hours so it's a good workout and we try not to sit around too much so you're always moving and learning, it's always something new," Robinson says.

There are kids from 8 years old to adults in their 60's and 70's.

Each night, he says, starts with dodge ball where sit ups and push ups are the punishment for getting hit.

It goes Monday and Thursday nights from 7 to 9 at the Spitzee School gym and anyone who wants to give it a try can do so free of charge.
