An Okotoks youth has given a big gift to a local charity.

Liam Lyons, 8 years old, of Big Rock Elementary, chose to donate his Lemonade Day proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House.

Lyons' stand Lemon Squeezy raised money for the charity that helps keep families together while their children receive medical treatment.

He had a very special reason for choosing the Ronald McDonald house for his donation.

"My little cousin, she had lung surgery, and she was in the Ronald McDonald House," Lyons said.

While Lyons originally had $160 to donate to the charity, thanks to matching donations by companies like Sinopec Canada, Lyons' total donation ballooned to over $500.
