Crops are ripening quickly in Lethbridge County, and even the irrigated land is having a hard time keeping up to moisture demands.

Lorne Hickey, Reeve of Lethbridge County, says people can expect to see a time difference between irrigated and dry land crop harvest.

"The dry land crops will not be filling quite to their potential, and they won't have as long of a growing season because of the lack of moisture. When you have enough moisture, the growing season tends to be longer, but harvest is going to come faster for dry land this year."

Hickey adds, they didn't see as much hay produced down South as usual.

"I think it's less tonnes this year. The growing season had a lack of rainfall, which certainly produced less tonnage per acre. Hay will probably be at somewhat of a premium this fall."

Mother nature has farmers a bit concerned this year, but Hickey says that's just the way it goes, and they will make the best of it.
