The hot and dry weather has made for an easy haying season in Southern Alberta, but has taken its toll on the crops.

Farmer and Owner of M.R.G. Land & Cattle Ltd., Murray Giles, says they are starting to see stunted crop growth in the High River area.

"Last year, we had showers on our canola most days that it was flowering, and that produced some of the biggest canola yields in this area we've ever seen. In a lot of cases, that's what it boils down to. If you can get cool, damp weather while the canola is flowering, it's going to producer more pods for you, which in turn makes more bushels in the end."

Giles adds, it's been a long time since they've seen any measurable moisture, and the crops are starting to show it.

Farmers have been doing their best to ensure their crops produce maximum yields.

Now, the rest will be up to mother nature.
