The Foothills Falcons advanced to the Big Rock Football League finals with a 42-0 win over the Highwood Mustangs Thursday, October 20.

The more powerful Tier II squad had their way with the Tier IV Mustangs most of the night, but Mustangs Coach Brian Brandford says he saw enough out of his team to be optimistic going forward.

"Yeah, I'm satisfied, I'm happy. We minimized our mistakes, you know we had the dropped punts in the second and third quarters, but at least we're fighting, at least were fighting. So I'm pleased with that."

Brandford says he'd like to see more out of his offensive line, but since it's made up mostly of grade nine and 10 kids, he knows it's a work in progress.

Falcons Coach Darren Olson says the game went pretty much as he thought it would, and allowed him to get some of his younger players in.

'It is useful for us for sure, our first string guys don't get a whole lot of (playing) time, but it's good that the young guys do. And that helps them going forward for sure."

Olson says they've had a few weeks of blowout games now and he's worried some of his starters may not be as sharp as they could be.

So expect to see his number one units getting more time on the field in the coming weeks as the games start to mean more and more.

The other semi-final had the Holy Trinity Academy Knights blank the Rundle College Cobras 30-0.

So, the Falcons will square off against their cross town rivals, the Knights Friday, October 28 in the Big Rock finals at the Comp, while the Mustangs head to Calgary to face Rundle in the consolation game.
