Highway 22 collision kills two Albertans

A collision last night on Highway 22 claimed the lives of two Calgarians.

The collision happened at approximately 6 p.m., about 5 km north of the Highway 520 intersection, with RCMP from Claresholm and Nanton attending along with emergency crews.

Cpl. Gina Slaney, Public Information Officer for South Alberta District says two people have died as a result of the two-vehicle collision.

"The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 38-year-old male resident of Calgary was declared deceased at the scene. There were two occupants in the northbound vehicle. They were transported to a Calgary hospital in serious condition. Unfortunately, the female passenger, a 72-year-old resident of Calgary succumbed to her injuries in hospital. The male driver remains in hospital with serious injuries."

It appears weather and driving conditions played a part in the collision.

"The initial investigation has revealed that the southbound vehicle may have crossed the centre line colliding with the northbound vehicle. Road and weather conditions weren't that great at the time of the collision."

The two vehicles involved were a Honda Ridgeline and a Toyota Camry.

The RCMP pass along their condolences to family and friends.
